Special Session

ALIFE 2023 (the 2023 conference on Artificial Life) will feature a Special Session on “(In)human Values and Artificial Agency”. This session focuses on issues at the intersection of AI Safety and Artificial Life. We invite the submission of research papers, or extended abstracts, that deal with related topics.

We particularly encourage submissions from researchers in the AI Safety community, who might not otherwise have considered submitting to ALIFE 2023.

Workshop

The workshop “Values in the machine: AI Alignment and A-Life” will be held on Friday 28th July at the ALIFE 2023 conference. There will be a packed schedule of invited talks and discussions. The invited speakers are John Wentworth and Daniel Polani. There will be a discussion panel featuring Katsunori Miyahara, Takashi Ikegami, Jan Kulveit, John Wentworth and Mel Andrews.

This workshop aims to introduce AI Alignment concepts to A-Life researchers, and will bring together researchers from both fields; AI Alignment and A-Life, for discussion and cross-pollination of ideas. This workshop will complement the special session: “(In)Human Values and Artificial Agency”, which has a broader focus on all research at the intersection of AI Safety and Artificial Life.
